Matthew Highton
Who is master storyteller and filmmaker Matthew Highton? Live, he’s made a name for himself as a stand-up storyteller, whose shows are renowned for their imagination, anarchy and hilarity. Having taken solo shows around the world, from Edinburgh to Australia, he’s also performed at some of the UK’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival and Latitude.
Highton is also a director, writer and collaborator for the 2018 Chortle award winning and Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival Awards nominated Weirdos Collective (“Making us laugh at very strange things” The Independent,”The closest thing we have to a modern day Comic Strip” Chortle), and co-founder of Chortle nominated, live, improvised comedy show, Comedians Cinema Club (“One of the best audience-participation shows” The Guardian), which has now grown to house residencies in London, Brighton and LA and has its own series of widely-regarded podcasts.
Through his love of film, gaming and pop culture, Highton has also become the resident host across all of the Belgium Comic Cons and has performed at conventions including EGX, MCM’s London Comic Con and was part of the critically-acclaimed stage adaption of cult TV show, Knightmare Live (**** Den of Geek).
As a filmmaker, Highton has directed sketches, trailers and several short films. Current projects include writing and performing for the Beano as well as directing on their upcoming Sky projected, writing scripts for Channel 4s Mashed and is co hosting a radio show with Tony Law.
With a keen eye for the abstract and an unfathomable commitment to his work, this affable Northerner is one of the most unique and stimulating director/writer/performers working today.
